The birthplace of the United Farm Workers, Delano has also become home to remarkable musical talent. Maestro Juan Morales’s students are not only first-rate musicians but also high achievers in other areas, gaining admission to colleges like Harvard, UCLA, and Wellesley. Still, what makes Mariachi Mestizo truly extraordinary is their music.

Their newest release, Mariachi Mestizo XXV Anniversario, may have been recorded by students from 7th to 12th grade, but it sounds entirely mature—a vibrant celebration of an amazing and ongoing story.

A composer, arranger, music director, and vihuela player with the legendary Mariachi Los Camperos, Juan Morales eventually settled in California’s San Joaquin Valley as his family expanded. Following years of teaching in numerous local schools, he established The Mariachi Studio in 2010, which has since served as the primary training ground for all members of Mariachi Mestizo. Over time, this educational initiative and its resulting ensemble have evolved into a celebrated cultural institution and a source of immense pride for the Delano community.
